Exchange 2007 Anti-Spam

I’m cheap. Really cheap. Which means I would prefer not to buy software, pay for a hosted anti-spam/anti-virus (like ProtectXchange, which really works quite well) or install a Linux box with all the accoutrements or an Exchange 2007 Edge Server. Extra servers mean additional electricity usage and my electric bill is already large enough. So I’ve installed Exchange 2007 Anti-Spam filters on my hub transport – instructions are after the jump – and will check and see how that goes. I’ll post an update with the results in a couple weeks.

To install Exchange 2007 Anti-Spam filters on your hub transport;

  1. Launch the Exchange Management Shell
  2. cd c:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Scripts
  3. ./install-AntiSpamAgents.ps1
  4. net stop msexchangetransport
  5. net start msexchangetransport
  6. Back to the Exchange Management Console
  7. The (essentially blank) default configs are in Organizational Coniguration -> Hub Transport -> Anti-Spam Tab

If anyone is interested, I’ll post a walk through of my config as well. Suffice it to say I’m doing the regular content filtering, using Spamhaus & Spamcop for DNSBL filtering, rejecting on failed Sender ID and blocking messages sent to recipients not listed in the GAL.

Oh, this is also the first split post I’ve ever attempted so leave a comment if you got this far. :)
