Greetings From Cube Land
Hello my intrepid readers. Sorry for the long delay since my last post, I’ve had an eventful 19 days. Since my last post, I have…
- Stopped traveling. That’s right, no more planes in the forseeable future for me.
- Started a new contract at a very large software company. I’m now somewhat of a consultant to consultants. Basically the same thing as I did before but I have a much shorter commute now – 4.1 miles in 12-15 mins one way is much better than 2,000+ miles in 12-15 hours one way. I also have a much smaller paycheck unfortunately, but the time I’m spending with my family more than makes up for it.
- Yet again forgot to ship out Christmas presents to my family members on time. If you’re reading this, don’t worry they really will get there eventually.
- Started getting to know my wife and kids again.
- Found out my kids are really pretty cool little people. I hadn’t spent much time with them over the past 2.5 years, I’m glad it’s happening now.
- Started working in a cube. This is almost surreal to me, I haven’t worked in a cube in almost a decade.
That’s pretty much my last few weeks. While I actually have more work to do on a day-to-day basis than I previously did, I find myself with a great deal more spare time. This is probably since I’m not involved in a small business where everyone does everything anymore, which frees up my evenings.
It’s kind of nice having spare time to pursue other interests. Now I just have to figure out what those other interests are, but that can wait as it’s now time to get back to work as the blue bar is almost done. ;)
[...] December of 2007 I was feeling burned out and decided to leave the consulting world to get a Real JobTM. It didn’t take me long to find a contract at Microsoft as a Partner [...]
